James 1:22 "Be doers of the word, and not merely hearers."
Be Christ for others, as Christ is for us.
We are called as Catholics to serve others. The Youth Ministry department provides ways for our young Catholics put their faith into action with various service opportunities and encourages families to do reach out to others as a family.
This year LIGHT is starting something new - Youth Ministry Service Teams.
Teams will focus on a particular issue critical to our Catholic faith.
They will provide 3 – 5 different opportunities throughout the year
focusing on their particular issue, enabling teens to learn more about
each issue. Service opportunities that are ongoing:
• Feeding the Hungry –help unpack food and
stock shelves at one of the county food banks to.
• Feeding the Hungry - serve approximately 2600
lunches at St. Anthony’s Dining Room in San Francisco.
• Sharing our Love for the Poor & Vulnerable
– LIGHT has sponsored MJ from the Philippines and Gladys from Guatemala.
Teens help by contributing $1 a month to help support MJ and Gladys.
• Sharing our Love for the Poor & Vulnerable
- build affordable homes in the East Bay with Habitat for Humanity.
We would like to add Visiting the Elderly and Caring for God’s Creation,
but need some help coordinating. Hint, hint!
Teens are encouraged to choose an area that interests them and participate in one or all of the activities for that particular Service Team.
