With the spiritual pillars of Lent at our disposal, we set out on a 40-day journey, a journey of encounter with ourselves, our neighbors and our God.
Through prayer, we encounter Christ, present in the faces of every member of our human family, so often still walking that long road to Calvary.
Through fasting, we encounter our own obstacles, those things about ourselves that prevent us from loving God and neighbor.
Through giving, we encounter our brothers and sisters around the world, asking what we can give up so that others might have life to the fullest.
Please take advantage of any of the following opportunities to help your encounter this season of Lent.
Stations of the Cross
Friday evenings, March 15 – April 12 at 7:00 PM. Stations of the Cross will be facilitated by various parish ministries.
Catholic Relief Services – Rice Bowl
On behalf of St. Joan of Arc parish, the Gospel Justice group would like to invite everyone to take part in CRS Rice Bowl program during Lent. CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program. It offers opportunities for your family to engage daily with the spiritual pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. And it’s an opportunity for us as a parish to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live out our Gospel call to go out and encounter those most in need.
During the next 40 days, we will encounter the stories of people in Guatemala, Uganda, Gaza and other places around the world where CRS is at work. Through their stories, we’ll learn about the principles of Catholic social teaching—and ways we can put them into action during Lent and beyond.
We will reflect on how an encounter with resurrection can be transformative. We will see how our prayers, fasting and almsgiving can give hope to those worldwide who are most in need, especially those forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities.
The Gospel Justice group is excited to take this journey with the members of St. Joan of Arc and to connect the prayer and reflections of each of our families to our global community of faith. We hope you will take home a CRS Rice Bowl, which will be handed out after the Ash Wednesday Masses. After Ash Wednesday, additional CRS Rice Bowls shall be in the pews and at the two main vestibules. The bowls will be collected during Holy Week or you can return them to the parish office.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Patrick Shandonay at email@example.com.
Communal Reconciliation will be available on March 25 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
